HISTORY OF THE FIRM

The firm was organized in June 1974, by Edmond A. Swad in Livonia, Michigan.

Edmond A. Swad, Jr. was admitted to Swad & Company as a principal in January 1998. Ed has worked in public accounting since 1986, including several years with a national public accounting firm. Ed has worked with closely held businesses and their owners providing tax, estate, retirement, and general business planning. He has provided litigation support involving a variety of issues and provided testimony regarding valuation issues, tax and audit issues, and damage claims. Additionally, Ed has served on the board trustees for a local community hospital and other non-profit organizations.

Gary M. Blanck was admitted to Swad & Company as a principal in 2006, which highlights his career with the firm since 1991. Additionally, Gary is a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. Gary is a frequent conference and seminar speaker and takes great pride in educating business owners, controllers, and individuals regarding the aspects of owning and running a successful business. Gary is actively serving on the Michigan Associated of Certified Public Accountants’ Board of Directors. Gary also assists clients in Internal Revenue Service proceeds such as Offer in Compromise cases.

Ruthann E. Swanson was admitted to Swad & Company as a principal in 2019, highlighting her career with the firm since 1995. She has overseen numerous union fund audits for clients and has done due diligence work for the buyers of multi-million dollar companies. She also represents clients with various federal, state, and local taxing agencies and enjoys management consulting with leaders in business. Ruthann has also assisted clients in obtaining the fullest possible COVID-19 funds and credits such as the Paycheck Protection Program and its forgiveness and the Employee Retention Credit. Additionally, Ruthann oversees the Career Internship Program at Swad & Company in coordination with Livonia Public Schools.

We also have a professional staff of accountants with varying backgrounds and experience levels as support. Our firm maintains a position of dignity and responsibility in the business community.
